After deciding on WordPress as your content management system, you may be wondering how exactly to design and build pages on your website to maximize cost, time, and online traffic. If you’ve been using MotoPress Content Editor as a page builder, it might be time to migrate to something more cost-effective.
When it comes to the cost of your page builder, many new website builders would agree that saving money whilst still learning the ropes is the wisest option. WordPress now comes with its very own free page builder called Gutenberg. This block editor is available in WordPress 5.0 and later versions.
Seeing as WordPress itself is open source software and free of charge, the Gutenberg block editor also won’t cost anything to use. With a bunch of features, drag-and-drop usability, and general ease-of-use, this content editor is a favorite in the WordPress community.
In comparison, the MotoPress Content Editor also offers lots of nifty features like front-end editing, pre-made themes, and many content elements. However, when it comes to price, MotoPress simply does not favorably compare with Gutenberg. Currently, there are three pricing tiers available to choose from ranging from $29 to $139.
As with most drag-and-drop page builders, MotoPress is based on shortcodes that enable its users to do a myriad of things with little to no effort. Shortcodes allow you to place WordPress code in posts and pages without having to write any code yourself. This can simplify the design of pages and posts, which is great for new website builders who are still getting the hang of things.
But seeing as shortcodes are plugin-specific and dependent on the activation of that plugin, it can become problematic if you were to ever uninstall that plugin. If a plugin were to be removed or deactivated, all the shortcodes will become redundant. This means that you will essentially have to redesign the entire look and functionality of your website.
On the other hand, Gutenberg is the WordPress’s preferred content editor. This means that if it were to be discontinued, WordPress would probably give its users an alternative editor to work with that won’t compromise the design of their websites.
Ultimately, Gutenberg would be the better and more uncomplicated choice to go with if you don’t know how to code. This would mean that you won’t experience any coding problems whilst creating or maintaining your website.
A lot of new website creators think that in order to avoid the problem of installing too many plugins, they can simply install one page-builder plugin that already has all the features they need to get going. Too many plugins are known for slowing down your website. This then negatively impacts your online traffic and usability of your website. Thus, a page builder may seem like the perfect solution.
But, this is often not the case. Page builders, like MotoPress Content Editor, utilize shortcodes. These are basically compacted, complicated strings of coding. Every new module places more shortcodes on your pages. This translates into extra hidden code on your website that can easily slow down the loading time of your pages.
Performance issues are one of the primary reasons that websites never gain the traction they need to truly power a company to new heights. This is why page builders like MotoPress are not ideal.
However, not using any shortcode is often not practical. This is because it makes design and integration relatively easy for new users. Luckily, editing your pages and posts with the Gutenberg editor will more than suffice when it comes to customizing both new and old content without slowing down your site.
Website speed has a significant impact on the search engine optimization of your website. If your website loads at a slow pace, Google has to consume more bandwidth to display your pages to online viewers. This means that the search engine has to allocate more resources to do so.
By using a page builder like MotoPress for your website, you slow down your website’s loading time. And as a result, you negatively impact your SEO rating.
On the other hand, Gutenberg allows you to improve your SEO rating by not slowing down your website. This will effectively increase your online traffic. More traffic translates into more leads, which could result in higher profitability.
When it comes down to it, your overall goal should be to invest in a content editor or page builder that adds a lot of value to your website. Specifically, in terms of efficiency, usability, price, and performance.
Although MotoPress Content Editor does offer great features, migrating over to Gutenberg is worth it. Especially when you consider the cost, impact on loading time, and SEO implications.
A few companies we've migrated websites for
"WordHerd did an amazing job with our CMS migration to Wordpress. They over-delivered on our expectations and handled the process end to end, on time, and on budget. The team is fantastic to work with. They had the experience and depth of knowledge to handle our large scale project, which was built on an out of date, clunky CMS. And they migrated it to Wordpress without any issues. Their communication was excellent. Their documentation was excellent. Their work was excellent. We have benefited greatly from the success of this project WordHerd handled, and I'm very grateful for that. I would highly recommend WordHerd for any development project."

This was a website that consisted of several WebApps and complex links between the various assets. WordHerd was able to migrate the site and keep all of the data relationships intact -- all in about two weeks time! Amazing work that exceeded expectations!"
