WordPress offers more Flexibility than Joomla

Joomla is a popular, open-source content management system (CMS) that is used to host a wide variety of websites. The platform was released in 2005 and is written in PHP. It has quite a few similarities to WordPress, including its ability to publish web content in a simple, user-friendly fashion. While Joomla is a decent platform to host a website on, when compared to WordPress, there are many aspects that simply make WordPress a better option. What it really comes down to is the flexibility in the platform, and WordPress offers better options in multiple areas.

Themes

WordPress is known for its expansive library of themes that can be modified and customized to make each individual site look unique. The library includes both free and premium themes, but you can certainly get a well-made, aesthetically-pleasing theme for your site by paying very little to no money. Joomla offers themes as well, but it’s much easier to find high-quality themes for WordPress sites than to spend time sifting through Joomla templates.

Plugins

Both Joomla and WordPress each have their own set of plugins available to add functionality to a website. However, there is absolutely no question that WordPress has the advantage in this category. Not only does WordPress have a more expansive theme selection, the plugin library is practically infinite. Developers have been creating and perfecting WordPress plugins since the release of the platform, and basically any aspect of functionality your site may require can be found in the library. WordPress offers both free and premium plugins, and the use of this library makes the development of complex sites an easy and straightforward process.

Search Engine Optimization

Joomla makes search engine optimization (SEO) a pretty straightforward process by providing fields for meta descriptions and keywords for articles. However, WordPress is far more dynamic in the way it optimizes SEO. Aside from having themes that support visibility in search results, WordPress also has plugins that make SEO an easy process even for users that are unfamiliar with the common practices. For example, the Yoast SEO plugin is available in the WordPress library and provides the user with an abundance of features to greatly increase any site’s visibility online. The plugin itself is remarkably easy to use and it makes fundamental SEO practices more transparent and far less complicated. Users with little to no experience with SEO are able to understand the basics within minutes and make sure their sites have the best chance of showing up in search results.

WordHerd did an amazing job with our CMS migration to WordPress. They over-delivered on our expectations and handled the process end to end, on time, and on budget. They had the experience and depth of knowledge to handle our large scale project, which was built on an out of date, clunky CMS. I would highly recommend WordHerd for any development project.

WordHerd has been fantastic to work with. We’re always impressed with their ability to take our goals and ideas, and bring them to life online. It’s hard to find a company that can design and develop, they excel in both and have always delivered an end product that we love.
